Aid for Animals in Ukrainian Zoos

Project: AID FOR ANIMALS IN UKRAINIAN ZOOS

Country: Ukraine

Description

ooms, fear, confinement in indoor shelters—this is now the reality for animals in zoos in Kyiv, Kharkiv, Odesa, and Askania-Nova. We remain in constant contact with the zookeepers, many of whom, along with their families, live on the zoo grounds because commuting between home and work is impossible. They refuse to abandon their beloved animals. We know they will do everything they can for them!

For now, they have enough animal feed for a few days, and so far, bombs have not fallen on them. We hope it stays that way, and that our assistance will only be needed to buy fruits, vegetables, meat, fish, grains, and pellets—products that are skyrocketing in price!

To support them, together with Wrocław Zoo, we have launched a fundraiser for zoos and nature reserves in Ukraine. In times of human suffering, please do not forget about the animals!

Polish zoos and the Polish people, unfortunately, know all too well what war means for animals. No matter the country, no matter the government, they are innocent victims! That is why Wrocław Zoo has already donated 15,000 EUR to Ukrainian zoos, and now you can join us in helping them.

Karol Łukaszewicz, the first post-war director of our Wrocław Zoo, wrote in his book Zoos: Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow:
“There is no institution more peaceful and pacifist than a zoo. Wars always mean deadly danger for it, threatening slow decline or widespread destruction.”

We stand by his words.

09.03.2022 – We have purchased animal capture equipment worth over 9,000 PLN: cages, nets, and stretchers. These supplies are now on their way to Ukrainian zoos. Please do not forget about the wild animals in Ukraine’s zoos—we are receiving more and more calls for help.

06.03.2022 – Thank you very much for your support! Thanks to your generosity, we transferred 20,000 PLN to Kyiv Zoo on Friday. We ask for continued support so that we can assist more zoos in Uk
